No future for Malta until money is taken out of politics

Moviment Graffitti finds itself deeply concerned about the past days’ events, that have further exposed the precarious situation of the government.

The interactions seen in the leaked chat logs between Yorgen Fenech and Rosianne Cutajar confirm what we have long insisted – that there exists an incestuous relationship between political and business interests. The relationship between these two people, while wholly inappropriate and deserving of sanction, is just the tip of the iceberg. Moreover, it confirms that a chunk of our political class is in politics purely for personal gain, pigging out at the people’s expense.

There will be no better future for Malta and its people until politics is cleaned of the influence of those with money. This applies regardless of who is in government, as this is a systemic issue and action must go further than just the removal of a few bad actors.

The Malta Police Force has betrayed its duty towards the public; the lack of prosecutions seen over recent years despite magistrates’ orders and evidence in hand shows that it cannot be trusted to serve the public interest.

The same can be said for the Attorney General, whose incompetence shows gross ineptitude at best, and corrupt collusion at worst. In case after case, criminals are let loose, charge sheets are riddled with mistakes, and, again, the public interest is not served. The speed with which the Attorney General acted to comply with the demand to prosecute Mark Camilleri stands in stark contrast to the slow pace it has adopted in almost every other case.

Similarly, it was recently revealed that the police have dragged their feet in searching Enemalta’s offices in relation to the scam of the Montenegro wind farm, which cost the public millions.

We have seen these inexplicable delays in an endless amount of cases, with those of Sion Grech and Bernice Cilia being a recent reminder. Yet these cases are only a fraction of the myriad of injustices due to technicalities and persistent delays in our criminal justice system.

It has become abundantly clear that these institutions have been hijacked and no longer serve the public. They serve the government and act on the government’s demands.

We have absolutely no faith in the leadership of the Malta Police Force and the Office of the Attorney General, who have continuously failed the people of Malta.

Malta m’għandhiex futur jekk il-politika ma titnaddafx mill-influwenza tal-flus

Il-Moviment Graffitti jinsab ferm imħasseb dwar l-avvenimenti tal-aħħar ġranet, li komplew juru s-sitwazzjoni prekarja li l-Gvern jinsab fiha.

L-interazzjonijiet li ġew żvelati fil-logs ta’ bejn Yorgen Fenech u Rosianne Cutajar jikkonfermaw dak li ilna nafu – li hemm relazzjoni inċestuża bejn l-interessi politiċi u kummerċjali. Ir-relazzjoni bejn dawn it-tnejn, waqt li hija inaċċettabbli għall-aħħar u ma ħaqqhiex għajr kundanna, hija biss qatra f’oċejan. Barra minn hekk, tikkonferma li hemm sezzjoni kbira tal-klassi politika li qiegħda fil-politika biss għall-interess personali tagħha, titħanżer minn fuq dahar il-poplu.

Nistgħu ninsew li qatt se jkun hemm futur aħjar għal Malta u għal niesha sakemm il-politka ma titnaddafx mill-influwenza ta’ dawk bil-flus. Dan japplika hemm min hemm fil-gvern, għax din hija problema sistemika. Għalhekk l-azzjoni trid tmur lil hinn mit-tneħħijha ta’ ftit nies problematiċi.

Il-Pulizija Maltija tradiet l-obbligu li għandha li taħdem għall-pubbliku; in-nuqqas ta’ prosekuzzjonijiet tul l-aħħar snin minkejja l-ordnijiet li ngħataw mill-maġistrati u saħansitra minkejja l-evidenza li kellha f’idejha, turi li ma tistax tiġi fdata li ser isservi l-interess pubbliku.

L-istess jista’ jingħad dwar l-Avukat Ġenerali. L-inkompetenza ta’ dan l-uffiċċju hija xhieda mhux biss ta’ nuqqas ta’ kapaċità imma, iktar minn hekk, ta’ koperazzjoni illeċita u korrotta. F’każ wara każ, kriminali jitħallew jiġru barra, il-prosekuzzjoni titfixkel f’saqsajha, u, għal darb’oħra, l-interess pubbliku jibqa fil-qiegħ nett. L-għaġġla li biha l-Avukat Ġenerali ħadmet sabiex tilqa’ t-talba biex jittieħdu passi kontra Mark Camilleri tidher bil-wisq agħar meta tqabbilha mal-passi ta’ nemla li ttieħdu fir-rigward ta’ ħafna każijiet oħrajn.

L-istess, għadna kif sirna nafu li l-Pulizija għadhom lanqas biss għamlu tfittxija tal-uffuċini tal-Enemalta dwar il-każ tal-windfarm fil-Montenegro, każ ieħer fejn il-pubbliku tilef il-miljuni.

Rajna dewmien interminabbli jew negliġenti f’numru ta’ każi bħal dawk riċenti ta’ Sion Grech u ta’ Bernice Cilia. Imma dawn il-każijiet huma biss qatra mill-ħafna inġustizzji li jseħħu minħabba teknikalitajiet u telf ta’ żmien li jistgħu jiġu evitati.

Huwa ċar daqs il-kristall li dawn l-istituzzjonijiet ġew maħtufa mill-gvern u m’għandhomx l-interess tal-pubbliku. Jaqdu biss lill-gvern, u jieħdu azzjoni biss meta jrid hu.

M’għandna l-ebda fiduċja fit-tmexxija tal-Pulizija Maltija u tal-Uffiċċu tal-Avukat Ġenerali, li ilhom żmien li ttradew lill-poplu Malti.
